A written and pictorial history celebrating the centenary of the Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society

1907-2007

'In 1976 Cyril Epps was Chairman of the Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society. He became aware of the lack of any recorded history of the society and felt that unless this was undertaken soon, all traces of the early years would vanish forever. Through the kindness and generosity of a number of people who were alive at the time and others who knew something of the society’s beginnings, it was possible for him to piece together sufficient evidence to give a reasonably accurate account of those early days.

In 2006, I happened across Cyril’s history and realised that another thirty years had passed and the society would shortly be celebrating its Centenary. Therefore, being passionately interested in BAOS and its members, I decided to bring the story up to date and include throughout, anecdotes and elements of the business and management of the society'
