BAOS 'OKLAHOMA' 2008
Comments from the Adjudicators :- 'This classic show is an audience favourite and rightly so. It features lots of lovely songs, has energetic dancing for a large chorus and challenging characters. All it really needs is a lot of talent to provide an entertaining evening and that was what Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society delivered.
The opening notes of the overture established the orchestra was in safe hands and MD Tony Pomeroy really delivered a treat. Aunt Eller, a lovely performance from Liz Jarvis, opened the show with clear dialogue, good 'bite' when needed and some lovely humour. The Lovers Laurey and Curley, were emotively played by Gemma Coombs and Matt Bell respectivly, in both dialogue and musical numbers. The villain of the piece, Jud Fry, was a really good brooding portrayal, full of depth from Ben Filler and such a contrast to the lovely 'scatty' Ado Annie, played with much fun by Danielle Redman. John Holliday as Ali Hakim and Dean Bammell as Will Parker also added to the humour. Fine performances from Brian Sands as Andrew Carnes and Jo-Ann Taylor as Gertie Cummings completed the main line up. The company added lots of support with clear dialogue, excellent singing and lovely dancing. Choreographers Julia McDonald and her assistant Katy Gunningham must have been delighted with the results. Direction by Sue Pomeroy was clear and ensured the story was well told The stage was used to the full and the emotion of the show well expressed There were no weaknesses to make it a very entertaining evening for us all. The applause was very much deserved.'
